Health norms to compel telecom firms to increase towers by 30% - Financial Chronical (India)
Telecom operators would have to increase their number of towers by as much as 30 per cent if mobile phones have to follow the newly introduced health hazard norms for specific absorption rate (SAR) level for mobile handsets, a department of telecommunication (DoT) official said.
“Mobile phone radiation concentrates only on an individual. It is very near to individual’s heart, and brain. So radiation from such close distance is more harmful than the radiation from towers.”
The official added, “But the radiation from towers emits to all three dimensions and doesn’t focus on one but many individual. In that way, the radiation is shared by residents living in that particular area”. There are about 900 million mobile subscribers in India.
