Shumlin To Sign Smart Meter Opt-Out Bill This Week - Vermont Journal

Senate Bill S.214 arrived late last week at Gov. Peter Shumlin’s Montpelier office and a spokesperson for the Governor said Monday afternoon the Governor will be signing the bill sometime this week.

The bill, introduced by Sen. Robert “Bob” Hartwell, Dorset, VT. gives customers a chance to refuse to have a “Smart Meter” installed in their home. Many Vermonters did not want the new digital meters that would monitor their electricity usage, transmit this information to the company and possibly cause a health hazard in their home.
