Officially Getting Weird

Smart meters...strange debate - KETK (with video)

Early in the year, the state of Texas mandated that a statewide conversion to so-called smart electric meters would take place.

The new meters are supposedly more accurate and will ultimately save energy. The mini-furor that surrounds so-called smart electric meters has for some reason, made folks very afraid.

This is one of those issues that has spawned conspiracy theories on both the left and right.

Some worry about the danger of exposure to high levels of radio frequency interference and the health problems it supposedly causes.

Others worried about accuracy.

Was this a way for a utility like TXU for example, who, according to Bloomberg, is in trouble financially, to make money?

One [customer] installed a second meter upstream from the smart meter to see what his usage actually was.

He found the meter to be very accurate.
