Maine Appeal

Maine Regulators' Smart Meter Decision Appealed - Maine Public Broadcasting Network

"Endangerment, immoral, illegal, unethical, irresponsible or just plain wrong; call it what you will, but when citizens are ordered by the PUC to pay-up in order to avoid real or perceived harms to health and privacy, this is the antithesis of good government. In fact, it's good government gone very, very bad," says Ed Friedman, the lead plaintiff in the case, in a statement.

CMP has maintained that the meters are safe, citing an assessment issued by state health officials which concluded that smart meters do no more damage to health than the wireless routers people use in home computers.

Utility customers taking fight against smart meters to Maine's highest court - The Republic

A group of Central Maine Power ratepayers says it's going to the state's highest court in its fight against the utility's use of so-called "smart meters"

The Public Utilities Commission this summer dismissed a 19-person complaint that challenged CMP's smart-meter program, in which it's replacing 600,000 traditional electric meters with wireless digital devices.
