2011: The Year of the Smart Meter

For people who have spent any portion of this year trying to protect their health from the rising tide of electrosmog, Smart Meters have loomed large. Yes, those pesky utility devices intended to save money, the environment, unnecessary driving, an overburdened grid, and our economic and energy futures. There are so many issues with the new digital wireless meters that a significant portion of the population would have reason to be concerned, if there were only more information coming from the mainstream media. The amount of advertising revenues provided by booming companies in the wireless and electricity service markets is enough to temper the reporting some Smart Grid developments, including the increasing backlash.

A small sampling of what Smarter Meters has pursued this year:

March - LightSquared gets special treatment amidst interference concerns

April - FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski at The Computer History Museum

May - Electrosmog damages trees

June - Burlington, VT votes on Smart Grid

July - Montpelier, VT electrosmog levels

August - 100 Watt incandescent ban

September - FCC allows more microwave backhaul

October - Analog Smart Meter shows usage with no load

November - Radio frequencies for pain relief

December - 450 Mhz "most efficient for penetrating tissue"
