Disturbing Developments

Today, a Green Mountain Power customer, who had formally elected to opt out of getting a Smart Meter, answered her door to find a GMP technician. He said he was there to install their new meter. After she explained that they had opted out and provided proof, the installer left. Later, I called GMP to find out why this had happened and was informed that they had received notice of the opt out at that address, but "someone pushed the wrong button" and they were never added to the list. If this customer had not been home at the time, they would have a brand new Smart Meter installed a few feet from their front door.

It's alarming that utilities continue to make mistakes like this, displaying their lack of concern for customers who wish to avoid pulsed RF, even after agreeing to pay $120 a year for this luxury.

Central Vermont Public Service has made it clear that wireless meters will be installed in their territory, despite overwhelming opposition. While those opposed to Smart Meters are being vaguely accused of spreading misinformation, it is clear that utilities as well as government agencies charged with protecting our health are the ones stretching the truth.

On Across the Fence, representatives from both CV and GMP went on record saying that the meters transmit a "couple" or a "few" times a day. The Vermont Department of Health has reported that "[Radio frequency radiation is] indistinguishable from background more than three feet from the smart meter during normal transmissions."

Let's see how quickly we can debunk these claims:

Call your utility and opt out.

Encourage your neighbors to opt out (there is no charge until 2013).

Call your representatives and urge them to pass legislation providing a permanent no-fee opt out.

Ask the Department of Health to provide us with accurate information.

Label your meter!
