Group claims smart meters the next gold-plating - ABC News (Australia)
The smart meter rollout has been long and controversial in Victoria. Numerous lobby groups argue they don't make economic sense.
Bruce Robertson is from the Manning Alliance on the New South Wales Mid-North Coast. Among other things, it represents electricity users in the area.
He says he was partly responsible for exposing the "gold-plating" practices of the energy industry, by revealing industry can push the cost of grid upgrades back onto the consumer.
"These things are great for the distributors, they're great for the retailers, they're great for the generators, but I don't think they're so great for the consumer."
